Lourdes is an international catholic pilgrimage centre. Since the appearances of Virgin Mary in 1858, millions of people worldwide come to Lourdes every year to visit its sanctuary and get to know the life of mystic Saint Bernardette Soubirous, to whom Virgin Mary appeared 18 times in the Cave of Massabielle, also known as Cave of Lourdes.

The Sanctuary of Notre Dame is part of the Marian Route along the sanctuaries of Torreciudad, Montserrat, Meritxell y El Pilar. Furthermore, in Lourdes you can also travel the Way of Bernadette, which follows the steps of Saint Bernadette through all her life.
